PACKS FOR P.I

PACKS FOR THE P.I

When Frank and Merci Pryor, along with Dave and Mike Jenkins visited the Philippines in April 2004, they had an opportunity to take along some gifts for the folk in the barrio of Caluluan.

The gifts were clothing for adults (Men and Women), children and babies.
There were also things such as, toys, games and toiletries.

They took these things to a part of Caluluan that is a particularly deprived area.

It is an area of Caluluan that is to be found behind the “Rizal Temple”.

Jose Rizal is one of The Philippine national heroes. He fought for the independence of The Philippines against Spanish rule in the nineteenth century.
As a result to his exploits and fame, there is now, not only a national recognition of his contribution to Philippine nationhood but there has also arisen an idolatrous worship of him.
These temples to Rizal can be found all over The Philippines.

This place can only be described as a squatter area, where people who are so poor and without their own homes or land “squat” and build shanty-type dwellings of the meanest kind.
The homes are very basic, made from bamboo and grass, with dirt floors and often covered with old rusty corrugated sheets, sacking from old rice sacks or cardboard.
The only source of water would be from a hand pump that is shared by several homes.
Very often the bore holes for these pumps are not deep enough to avoid being polluted by soak away toilets and other forms of dirty water which in turn lead to skin and intestinal sicknesses.

After giving out the gifts and spending quite a while visiting the various home and praying for the children and the sick we were all very moved to try to see if this kind of work could be continued and even extended to other villages and the nearby towns of Lapaz and Concepcion.

NNTO, after thinking and praying about this have decided to launch a new project called “PACKS FOR THE P.I” (P.I, Philippine Islands).

We are now looking for donations of GOOD!! Quality clothing for Adult men and women, children and babies.

We are also asking for GOOD! quality toys (Not Battery) and games, Toiletries (Tooth brushes, tooth paste, soap, face towels and Roll-on deodorants etc.)

NNTO are hoping to send out these boxes, each one measuring approximately 5 cubic feet about three times a year.
The boxes have No wieght limit and are delivered by a Filipino company based here in the UK.
The cost of sending each box, door to door is £80.

The boxes will be sent to local church leaders who will distribute the gifts to those folk in that area who are needy and would benefit the most. They will be sent in rotation around the various villages as we are able to raise sufficient goods and finance.

If you would like to be involved in any way with this work, please contact us by going to our “CONTACT NNTO” page or our “SUPPORT NNTO” page.
